Parent
Coordination is a new program to help separated, divorced, or
unmarried parents cooperate on decisions affecting their children.
Parent Coordinators are specifically trained, experienced
professionals who provide a service in helping parents resolve
conflict.
Issues address, but not limited to, are:
visitation plans, last minute changes, phone calls, holidays,
extracurricular activities, medical and professional appointments,
special needs considerations, vacations, visiting schedules for
relatives, household rules or boundaries, dating, and significant
others.
Benefits to parents are: an
avenue for a neutral exchange of communication whereby the
children are not placed in the middle of conflict, and developing
an awareness on the specific needs of children of divorce.
The legal system benefits by
allowing parents the opportunity to solve issues that can be
negotiated without involving the Court. In cases ordered by the
Court, Parent Coordination serves in helping the parents adhere to
the Court Order and keeping the Court appraised of the progress.

|
High-conflict divorce cases.
High rate of returning to Court
with non-legal issues.
Children have been denied emotional
or physical access to a parent.
Parent Coordination may be
necessary if there is a need or an interest in resolving disputes
without litigation, or when mediation has not been successful.
Assistance is given when there is a need for guidance in
developing a family plan. A Parent Coordinator can help if the
parties involved have been unable to co-parent, or when parents
are at an impasse in resolving issues.

|
Initial fee of $300 for review
of records and in-depth assessment with parents.
- Subsequent visits of $150 per
session.
- Parents typically divide these
costs equally unless there is a prior agreement to do
otherwise or there is a Court order specifying how costs are
to be distributed between the parties.
|
|
- Parent Coordinators provide an
alternative to court for high-conflict divorce cases which
return to court on issues regarding children. They monitor
court orders and report back on progress and cooperation of
parties.
- Parent Coordinators aid in
reducing conflict between parents. They educate parents in
understanding the developmental stages of the child and the
impact of divorce.
- Parent Coordinators are neutral
and impartial.
